Gap Year Med Student Virtual Scribes from Houston, Texas | Colleague since November 2019

Q: Where do you live and when did you start?
A: I live in Houston, Texas. I started with AQuity Solutions in November 2019.

Q: What account/specialty do you support?
A: I am currently working in Neuromuscular and Urology.

Q: What was your onboarding experience like?
A: Onboarding process was a little slow. I was eager to start covering shifts and wished I could have worked more than the allotted 30 hours/week during training. In addition, I would have enjoyed more real-time scenarios specific to the specialties I would be scribing in.

Q: What do you like best about working for AQuity?
A: I LOVE the flexibility. When I want to work more hours, or when I need to take a day or more off it is easy to thanks to all of the supportive scribes that work well in managing shift coverage. This is truly a blessing given that my previous scribe job I would have to skip family events or school to work given the lack of employees. Also, I love how the schedule is set and there is little to no change in the times work This makes it easier to scheduled personal things around my work schedule and not having to guess when and what time I am working.

Q: What surprised you most after joining the team?
A: The communication. We have AMAZING team leads and performance coaches that are in constant communication. Everyone is very friendly and open and give out good energy which is important in any job setting. This allows all scribes, especially the new, timid ones, to not be so shy to reach out for any need.

Q: What do you like best about working with your physician?
A: Given that my physicians know some of my goals and that I am a pre-medical student, they given me insight and tips/tricks on the MCAT, medical school applications, and interviews from a firsthand experience since they are part of the admission committee. They also extended a hand to me to come to them if I need help or guidance throughout the process.

Q: What would you say to another candidate looking at AQuity?
A: Given the current pandemic, working from home through AQuity has truly been a blessing in order to protect myself and my family. The knowledge learned through virtual scribing should not be taken for granted. Regardless of the situation, always use it as a steppingstone for your overall goal.

Q: Where is your favorite vacation spot and why?
A: aka Buena Vista, Florida…aka Disney World. You can go experience numerous cultures and try unique foods that one might not be able to back at home. I also have a lot of memories with family and friends, and even proposed to my fiancé there.

Q: How do you define success?
A: Success is having a roof over your head, a full stomach when you go to sleep, a warm and giving heart, good breath, great support system, good laughs, and happiness. Everything else outside of that list is just extra benefits. I am not saying do not achieve your goals and dreams, but never compare yourself to others or be unsatisfied with what you currently have knowing there are many people who have less than you.

Q: Name something on your bucket list and why it’s a goal.
A: My bucket list is the size of a novel so picking one was tough. But one thing on my bucket list is to be present in the area during the NBA Finals when my team, the Houston Rockets are in the championship series.
